    I believe the answer is: C ... uncertainty reduction theory

    In uncertainty reduction theory, the reason why we cannot directly be close to a new person is because we are uncertain of that person personalities.

    Over the time we interact with that person, our uncertainty of that person's character would be reduced and make us able to like him/her more.
