Explanation: The Colonists didn't just wake up one day and decided to take up arms against the British. Several series of events escalated tensions which eventually led to America's war for independence. The coming together of the 13 colonies to stand united and fight for independence from the British empire in 1776 happened after several events involving both the Crown and the Colonists, as well as multiple efforts by the colonists for emancipation.

The colonists made statements, they engaged the crown in dialogue, they held protests until the burning of the two ports in Massachusetts and Norfolk. The leaders of the rebellion seized this opportunity to make the argument that the colonists needed to band together to defeat a ruthless enemy and embrace the need for independence. This encouragement and need for survival ultimately led to their victory.
