After Argos the dog saw his master Odysseus, he wags his tail and after sometime died.

The suitors tau nt the beggar and asked Eumaeus why he had brought him to the palace.

Penelope is supportive of the beggar for he claimed to know news about her husband Odysseus.

Explanation:

In Chapter XVII of the text "The Odyssey" by Homer, we find Odysseus in disguise as a beggar going to his palace to face the suitors with Eumaeus, his swineherd.

At the entrance of the palace, he saw his dog Argos which he had taken before he left for Troy. The dog had grown old and even though others cannot tell the real identity of the beggar, Argos immediately remembered his master and wagged his tail. He "raised his head and pric ked up his ears, ... [and] died as soon as he had recognized his master."

When the suitors saw the beggar enter the palace, they began tau nting him and asked Eumaeus why he had "brought this man to town for? Have we not tram ps and beggars enough already to pe ster us as we sit at meat?"

Penelope, on the other hand, was supportive of the presence of the beggar in the palace for he had told Eumaeus to inform her that he knew all about Odysseus and would gladly tell her of his news later.
