How are the Aztec and the Maya people related?

They both didn't have unified empires, but had city-like states. They both had pyramids, love for divination, a solar calendar system, good at medicine, they liked poetry, and they both didn't have an officially army. They also existed in really close locations and both spoke an Olmec language.

Economically, both the Maya and Aztecs were farmers. They farmed a variety of produce which included corn, squash and beans ... The Aztecs and Mayans were two Mesoamerican civilizations that had much in common. One similar characteristic had to do with agriculture.
