    Iraq.

In the 1980s, Iraq and Iran fought what is now known as the Iran-Iraq War. This war was largely fought due to Iraq's desire to become the dominant force in the Persian Gulf and for control over an oil rich region in Iran.

Ultimately, no side gained any territory during the war.

In the 1990s, Iraq would invade Kuwait, an oil rich country, and the United States and its allies repelled that invasion.

In the 2000s, the United States entered Iraq in what was known as "Operation Enduring Freedom" after reports that Iraq was developing nuclear weapons.

No nuclear weapons were found but Saddam Hussein was ultimately deposed as Iraq's leader and hanged.
