    According to the gate control theory, pain signal can not just find it way to the brain as soon as they are generated at the sites. There needs to be some kind of movement through some "gates" which definitely involves the spinal cord. This gates subsequently determine if the pain signal would either get to the brain for processing or not.

    The gates is actually located in the spinal cord and it determine whether a pain signal would be transmitted to the brain or not.
