What compromise did the delegates reach on the slave trade

The delegates who were at the Constitutional Convention came to a compromise to count slaves as 3/5 of a person for the purposes of Congressional representation. This would appease Southern slave - holding states. Congress came to an agreement on not to ban the importing of slaves until 1808.
