Population composition is the statistical makeup of different groups in a society. The elements of composition is all the ways people, can categorize or identify themselves in the said society. The two most common elements are age and sex. Age is important for the government to be aware of because it can say a lot about how the economy will grow or drop. If more people in the society are older and can't contribute much to society and are going to need more social services, than the economy could see a huge drop in growth. However, if the majority of the population in younger than the economy could see rapid increases in growth, because more people can contribute to the economy. But, the younger population is going to need a lot as well. This people are going to need jobs, housing and government services. If the government isn't prepared for continuous growths in certain parts of the population, than they could end up with several problems in the future. Sex determines how many males and females live in the population. Worldwide the ratio is about equal, but many East Asian countries see an unbalanced population, dominated by males. The government will tend to use Immigration to balance out the population, by only allowing certain people in based off gender and sex. Countries tend to want an equal population in society. Age and sex are often looked at together to determine average ages for females and males. This can show if the population is consistently growing or if there is an increase or decrease in growth.
