Hello I'm a Florida 16 year old female, turning 17 in August and my boyfriend in 17 turning 18 in August as well a couple weeks before my birthday. It's currently June 3rd, I told my mom today that I am dating him. We've been dating for about 5 months. I told her out of respect because I didn't want to hide anything anymore. She said that he will not be welcome in our home, she does not want to meet him or his parents, she will get police involved if she has to to make sure he stays away from me. If she does get police involved will he get in trouble and did I do anything wrong? I'm familiar with the Romeo and Juliet law and don't think we'll get in trouble but I need reassurance.

No, he will not get in trouble

Florida has a close-in-age exemption. A close in age exemption, also known as "Romeo and Juliet law", is designed to prevent the prosecution of underage couples who engage in consensual sex when both participants are significantly close in age to each other, and one or both are below the age of consent.

Depending on the situation, the Florida close-in-age exemption may completely exempt qualifying close-in-age couples from the age of consent law, or merely provide a legal defence that can be used in the event of prosecution.

So in your case bkuz there is only a year difference he will not be prosecuted as long as you consent ... btw most parents just say they will involve the law to scare their kids so i doubt she will actually do it, my dad says it to me all the time when im with my bf
