The Dutch tradition of flower still life painting, was largely begun by Ambrosius Bosscharet, a Flemish born painter who had settled in the north by the beginning of the period and founded a new tradition of painting. These still life paintings are decadent and luxurious, they used dark backgrounds to make the flowers appear bolder and brighter (A.)
