The word "argument" has a specific definition in logic. In casual speech, "argument" can refer to a verbal fight or a convincing statement of opinion. But in logic, it has a more specific definition: an argument is a group of statements, at least one of which is claimed to provide support for another. The statements that are claimed to provide the support or evidence are called premises. The statement that the others are claimed to support is called the conclusion.
