    Britain & France had been in a long series of wars in 18th century. It had affected society & art drastically

    Military Glamorised : British military played a protagonist role, people rallied behind them stating that british identity was forged. Both men & women played role like training & making troops respectively for army. Military men heady mix of danger, glamour with bright uniforms was highlighted. Poverty & Unemployment : British government strengthened existing defences, built new ones, the funds for which came by increased taxes. People were in poor socio economic status due to high prices, high taxes, coupled with simultaneous unemployment due to trade restrictions & labour saving machinery. Anti War Literature : There is enough art & literature highlighting the adversities faced by public & how it impoverished & separated families. There are many tales of people, families struggling the hard times of war. Eg : William Wordsworth book 'The Excursion'.
