When Gatsby tells Nick that he is "trying to forget something very sad that had happened to me a long time ago," why does Nick have to restrain his laughter?

    Gatsby told Nick this so that Nick won't believe the "accusations" of him that has been going around. However, Nick restrains his laughter because he feels as if what Gatsby said was fake.
