    It is through whistles that dolphins interact with the pod. Each dolphin has a distinct whistle that identifies it with other dolphins of its pod. If an individual is in danger, it uses a particular noise that indicates aid is needed, so the pod responds quickly.

    Small dolphin species gather into multi-member pods as a way to compensate for their size when facing predators.
