In mitosis there's one round of genetic division, which results in two (diploid) daughter cells that are identical to the parent as well as each other. Whereas in meiosis there's two rounds of genetic division resulting in four (haploid) cells that have 23 chromosomes each (half the amount of chromosomes the parent has).
