A diploid organism has a total of 36 chromosomes. assuming all possible chromosome combinations are viable, if a mutant tetraploid version of this organism was created how many chromosomes would it have?

    Diploid means that a cell or nucleus contains two complete sets of chromosomes, one from each parent. For 36 chromosomes, 18 chromosomes would be from each parent. Tetraploid would mean that a cell or nucleus contains four complete sets of chromosomes. In this case, it would have 18 X 4 chromosomes, or 72 chromosomes.
