What might be the function of the muscle contraction in the walls of veins?

    Contraction and relaxation of the circular muscles decrease and increase the diameter of the vessel lumen. Specifically in arteries decreases blood flow as the muscle in the walls contracts, making the lumen narrower and increasing blood pressure.
