    Answer: chlorofluorocarbons

Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) are a type of halogenated hydrocarbon in which both clorine and fluorine atoms replace some of the hydrogen atoms. CFSs have brought about thinning of the Earth's ozone shield, which protects terrestial life from dangerous effects of ultraviolet radiation. More cases of skin cancer are expected to occur due to depletion of ozon layer.
