In this question, the antimicrobial X targets a specific protein in the cytoplasm of the bacterial cell and the bacteria have changed the shape of the target for antimicrobial x. The changed shape of the antimicrobial X will cause it to stop working as it can bind to the specific protein in the bacteria cell anymore.

Because some of the drug (that the shape changed) is losing its function, the effect of antimicrobial X will be reduced.
