Why are airplanes heading west slowed by the jetstream

    Because in USA the winds generally blow to the east. these winds are so strong that they actually slow down planes

    Because a jetstream is a force that is in a way making it harder for the airplane to move foreword. Have you ever tried to run in water? Well, it would kind of feel like that. So basically a jetstream is a force that is pulling back the plane.
