Why is the family unit important to the development of ethnic identity? The family unit is responsible for much of the information about the ethnic group. The family unit is the only group that has an effect on the development of ethnic identity. The family unit is the only group that is able to educate family members about ethnicity. The family unit must prepare an individual for societal stereotypes and acts of discrimination.
