    Autopsy is a surgical procedure done to determine the cause of death (forensic autopsy) or to evaluate diseases or injury (clinical/academic autopsy. Ancient Egyptians were one of the first civilizations to practice autopsy. Galen of Pergamon is one of several pioneers in autopsy. He was a prominent Greek physician, surgeon and philosopher in the Roman Empire and with his work influenced the development the scientific discipline - autopsy.
