Explain why leaf-cutter ants gather pieces of leaves and store them in their nests when they do not eat leaves.

    They carry the leaves back to their nest to shew the leaves into pulp. This pulp is stored with ant feces and fungus pores so that strands of fungus eventually grow on the decomposing pulp. The ants eat the fungus that is grown from the chewed up leaves.
