How did the climate in the Eocene compare to that of today?

    The Eocene period began 56 million years ago and ended 33.9 million years ago. The Eocene climate was warm and equable, leaving little latitudinal variability or seasonality.

    It was characterized with rapid expansion of the Antarctic ice sheet.

    Compared to the climate today the climate in the Eocene was much warmer.
