    Inhalation in humans is achieved by contraction of intercostal muscles (the muscles that are connected to the rib cage) and the diaphragm. The contraction of these organs open the lung’s volume, decrease the pressure thereby expanding the thoracic cavity and in this way inhalation occurs.
