Complete paralysis of the diaphragm occurs if the spinal cord is crushed or destroyed just below the c5 region.

    Injuries or destruction on the spinal cord below the C5 region do not affect the well-functioning of the diaphragm. When they occur close, like in C6 region, may cause some weakening in breathing but won't ever paralyse the diaphragm completely.
