    There are two types general types of gene mutations, germinal and somatic mutations. Germinal mutations affect cells destined to form into sperm and eggs. These mutations might not be present in the individual, but the mutation may lay dormant in their genotype (the entirety of one's genetic matieral, where not all genes are expressed).

    The somatic genetic mutations are mutations that occur in the body, changing an individuals phenotype (genes expressed), affecting other parts of the body. Sickle-cell disease causes a myriad of health-complications, including increased risk of a stroke and bacterial infections. However, these type of mutations are not necessarily passed down to future generations.

    The DNA sequence CTC paired with GAG codes for normal red-blood cells. A person with sickle-cell disease has the sequence CAC paired with GUG. A single nucleotide caused a massive cascade of health problems.
