Why is it that the primary transcript in prokaryotes can immediately serve as mrna while in eukaryotes it undergoes elaborate multistep processing?     The DNA of eukaryotes is highly complex compared to that of prokaryotes. This is why transcription in prokaryotes takes a very short time compared to in eukaryotes.
