Why is sickle cell disease classified as a recessive disorder?

Since the disease makes some members of a family victims and they are always sickly meanwhile there can be some other members of the family that the disease will not affect at all through the family's generation. So in summary, the impact on family dynamics is what makes it a recessive disorder.
