Why did a decrease in bone mass lead to increased calcium levels in the blood?

    The parathyroid gland releases a hormone that dissolves some of the calcium in bones moving it to the blood. This is a result of an increasing number of osteoclasts which results in the release of calcium ions into the bloodstream.
