The most well-known geological evidence for separate continents once being joined is the fossil record. A similarity among fossils along the coast lines of different continents provides good evidence that they were once part of a supercontinent. The same type of sediment has also been found on multiple different continents. This is called ‘Permo-Carboniferous glacial sediment’. Finally, common geological features of glaciers found on the different continents, i. e., the presence of deposits called tillites, suggests the existence of a supercontinent.
