How could a substance that stops the synthesis of mRNA cause the liver to stop functioning (the death of liver cells) ?

    The liver cells will die causing the liver to stop functioning when protein gets damaged or destroyed. When protein gets damaged there will be no more new proteins that will be produced therefore, the absence of mRNA is equivalent to the non-production of proteins in cells.
