Biochemist Erwin Chargaff was the first to discover that, in DNA, [A] = [T] and [G] = [C]. These equalities are now known as Chargaff's rule. Using Chargaff's rule, determine the percentages of all of the bases in DNA that is 22 % thymine.

    Adenine = 22%

    Guanine = 23%

    Cytosine = 23%

    Explanation:

    Erwin Chargaff discovered that purines equal pyrimidines in DNA. This shows that adenine is equal to thymine and cytosine is equal to guanine.

    If the DNA sample contains 22% thymine, then the amount of Adenine will be 22%.

    To calculate the amount of cytosine and guanine

    G+C = 100 - (A+T)

    G+C = 100 - (22+22)

    G+C = 56%

    Amount of C will be = G/2 = 23%

    Amount of G will be - 23%

    Thus, Adenine = 22%, Guanine = 23% and Cytosine = 23%.
