Mendel's law of independent assortment states that traits are inherited independently of each other.

    Explanation:

Mendel's law of independent assortment states that traits are inherited independently of each other.

Each trait is made up of alleles and as such, the alleles of each trait assort independently without interference from alleles of another trait.

Meiosis leads to the formation of haploid cells from diploid parents. Pairs of homologous chromosomes from parent cells are separated and randomly distributed into haploid daughter cells. Consequently, the chromosome of each daughter cell is a mix of chromatids from different homologous chromosomes.

In addition, pieces of DNA are broken and recombined during meiosis. The recombination process ensures that scrambled genes on the DNA are randomly recombined and independently assorted.
