    The earth is comprised of about 70% of water, of which more than 95% is saline in nature. This salinity of ocean water increases with the increasing rate of evaporation. As the water evaporates in the region where there are abundant salt concentrations, only the salt particles are being left out. This saline water is denser than the freshwater. The salinity of the ocean water is again counterbalanced by the occurrence of other processes such as precipitation, fresh water from the rivers and melting of ice in the polar region.

    So, salinity can be affected in the following conditions as given below-

    (A) Salinity is directly proportional to the rate of evaporation.

    (B) Salinity is inversely proportional to the rate of freezing.

    (C) Salinity is inversely proportional to the rate of melting.

    (D) Salinity is inversely proportional to the rate of precipitation.
