When and how is the spindle formed?

    The spindle, in the process of mitosis, is formed during prophase. Once the nuclear envelope breaks and releases the chromatin, the centrosomes begin to move to the opposite sides of the cell and latch onto the centromere of the newly formed chromosomes.
