    Explanation:

    During the early phase of ventricular systole, when the pressure in the ventricles is increased, the atrioventricular valves (mitral/tricuspid) closes. When the pressure in the ventricles exceeds the pressure in the aorta/pulmonary trunk the aortic/pulmonary valves open and blood is pumped from the heart into the great arteries.
