Aphasia is a fault in the complete production of speech which could be partial or complete.

Apraxia is a communication disorder which affects a persons ability to transform messages from his brain to oral speech.

Dysarthia is a disorder which arises from the weakening of the muscles used for oral communication. One of its symptoms is slurred speech.

Neurogenic stuttering arises from a damage to any of the organs in the central nervous system. Sufferers find it difficult to produce words with ease.

While all these disorders arise from some fault with the brain, there are peculiarities to be considered before diagnosis.

Developmental stuttering is peculiar to neurogenic stuttering. Apraxia could be developmental or acquired. Aphaxia however results mainly from brain injury such as stroke, or tumors, infections, amongst others.
