    Explanation:

    Meiosis:This is a form of nuclear division that produces gametes, resulting in cells with half the number of chromosomes which are present in the parent cell. Meiosis consist of two (2) successive division. The parent cell splits into two (first meiotic division) and the products divide again (second meiotic division), giving a total of 4 daughter cells. The process is divided for convenience into a series of stage.

    Sexual reproduction in Meiosis:During fertilization, the nuclei of the two gametes cells fuse. Since each gamete has one set of chromosome, the product of the fusion is a zygote with diploid (two sets of) chromosome. So if Meiosis did not occur, fusion of gamete would result in doubling of the chromosomes for each successive sexually reproduced generation.
