Plants use sunlight to produce sugar molecules in their leaves. Some of this sugar is needed by cells in the roots. Would you expect plants to rely on diffusion to transport the sugar molecules from leaves to roots, and why?

Phloem is responsible for the transportation of food substances to all parts of the plant such as shoots, stem and roots. This sugar molecule is utilized by these organs for their growth. So it is clear that plants do not rely on diffusion for the transportation.
