For a project, a student is required to produce a sound with a frequency of 440 Hz or the equivalent of an A note. If the speed of the sound wave is 345 m/s, what wavelength must the wave be? What formula did you use to find this out? What would you need to do to the wavelength to produce a higher frequency?

    The wave must be of wavelength of 0.78 m.

    To obtain higher frequency the wave length would be shorten.

    Explanation:

    from the formula

    v = fλ

    v = velocity

    f = frequency

    λ = wavelength

    Data given

    f = 440Hz

    v = 345m/sec

    λ = v/f

    = 345 m/sec / 440

    = 0.78 m

    the wave must be of wavelength of 0.78 m.

    If higher frequency is required wavelength would be shorten because from the formula wavelength is inversely proportional to frequency.
