    The breakdown of glucose is necessary to produce energy in the form of ATP. One molecule of glucose is converted into 2 molecule of pyruvic acid in the process of glycolysis which does not require CO₂ and creates 2 ATP and 2 NADH.

    Then this pyruvate is converted into acetyl Co-A in the matrix of mitochondria and undergoes the Kreb cycle in which CO₂ is produced with 6 NADH, 2ATP and 2 FADH₂. So here also no CO₂ supply is required.

    Then the electrons released by NADH and FADH₂ molecules are transferred to O₂ to generate ATP. Therefore glucose is oxidized into CO₂ to produce ATP which means energy yield from the breakdown of a single molecule of glucose does not depend upon the supply of carbon dioxide.
