Sensory receptors are neurons that are specialized so that they identify the specific physical trigger or stimuli. Sensory receptors do not have cell bodies synapse on dendrites, axons and cell bodies of certain other neurons. the two examples of such receptors are baroreceptors and hygroreceptors.

Neurotransmitter receptors also called as a neuroreceptor is a membrane receptor protein that is activated by a specific neurotransmitter. These receptors interact with lipid bilayer lipid that encloses the cell and bind to the external chemical. the two examples are Dopaminergic and GABAergic.
