How do the characteristics of living things contribute to an organism's survival?

    Organisms have adapted over time by natural selection to have certain features that they have developed which enable them to adapt and survive. For example, Shetland pony's are found on an island with lots of wind and rain, they are adapted with short stocky legs and high fat storage to be able to survive in very harsh conditions.
