    Explanation:

    ADP (adenosine diphosphate) has 2 phosphate groups and ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) has 3 phosphate groups. During the ATP break down, phosphate groups release energy which later gets converted into ADP.

    Hence, ATP is produced in the electron transport chain (in mitochondria in inner membrane and work as a carrier.) Chemical energy carried by the ATP is used by the cell, to carry out various metabolic processes. The addition of phosphate groups to ADP converts it into ATP
