Alfred Wegener was a German scientist that lived between 1880-1930.
He is famous for his postulate of the theory of continental drift that first suggested how the continents on earth moved.
The theory of continental drifted expounded by Wegener suggests that the earth's continents do moved and have changed position from the way they were originally formed. He postulated this in the year 1912. Wegener furnished his theory with very robust evidences such as fitting of the earths continent to form a giant land mass, similarities of rock types along continental edges etc. The major drawback to his theory was the absence of mechanism for this moving continent.
