Chemotherapy, as well as some other forms of cancer treatment, target specifically rapidly dividing cells as this is one of the characteristics of cancer cells. However, there are also natural rapidly dividing cells in the body such as the cells responsible for hair growth, these are also targeted and destroyed during treatment. Hair loss is the result of the destruction of these cells.
