China's one child policy was formed in 1979 with the aim to curb the increasing population of the country. Considered world's one of the most controversial methods to control population, it permitted couples to have only one child. As the traditional Chinese society preferred male child over female child, one child policy especially hit a blow to female population. This move created a huge imbalance in sex ratio. Number of males increased drastically with respect to number of women.
