Mitosis take so long to travel "due to its longest phase among four named Prophase"
Explanation:
A cell grows over the cell cycle, prepares for division and divides to create two daughter cells. Inter-phase, mitosis, and cytokinesis are the three major stages of the cell cycle. Mitosis is a part of the cell cycle as two new nuclei split replicated chromosomes.
Mitosis consists of four basic phases: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. Mitosis take so long to travel "due to its longest phase among four named Prophase". But overall inter-phase is most time taking and next is mitosis.
Cells in prophase have an expanded nucleus, the nucleus is no longer visible and the chromosomes appear within the nucleus as short jumbled strands. During prophase, cells spend about 14 per cent of the cell cycle. This process takes longer than the others, because the fragments of the nuclear envelope and the micro-tubules must be bound to the chromosomes.
