Like ponds and lakes, the ocean regions are separated into separate zones: intertidal, pelagic, abyssal, and benthic. All four zones have a great diversity of species. Some say that the ocean contains the richest diversity of species even though it contains fewer species than there are on land.

There are four ocean zones. The sunlight zone, twilight zone, midnight zone, and abyssal zone.

    Explanation:

In the sunlight zone there is lots of sunlight, plant life and plankton/plant eating animals, there are also the predators of these animals.

In the Twilight zone there is less animals as sunlight does not generally go down to this level and the food chain is limited as there is less plant life here, this level is most common to plankton and krill and their predators.

In the midnight zone there is not really any activity, there is more activity in the abyssal zone (i will explain). This is the deepest any mammalian creatures like the blue whale will ever go, the giant squid is most common here, there is tales of ancient fights between the blue whales and the giant squid.

At the abyssal zone there is lots of activity as there is heat producing thermal volcanoes, some plant life can live off this heat and multiply, small crustations such as crabs and shrimp will eat this plant life, and the food chain starts back up at the bottom of the ocean.
